30th Birthday

Well, today is my 30th Birthday. So, I wanted to recap my 30 Before 30 list… I crossed off about half of them and honestly, I’m damn proud of that. I learned so much about myself over the last year and a half, part of it was because I put myself out there in ways I hadn’t before. Last year was one of the most amazing, and most heartbreaking years of my life. I traveled more than I have in my entire life. But I also ended the year with the hardest loss I could even imagine. I wasn’t able to do much the last part of 2016, or this first part of 2017 due to my health… but when I get this sorted out I’ll have to make a 40 before 40… it will have to be incredible! Ten years is enough time to see a lot of the world if I just put my mind to it.

My favorite item that is crossed off on this list, was being able to take a road trip with my cousin Dani. I will forever cherish singing and dancing our way to both Dallas and Tulsa. I miss you so much, breathe easy my little turtle.

So, here is my 30 Before 30 list, what do you think should be on my 40’s list?

Until Next Time…

>> BECOME A CERTIFIED PAYROLL PROFESSIONAL (Studied, took the test but came with in just a few points of passing.)

>> RAISE $10K FOR THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION (It was actually about $11K!!)

>> READ 12 BOOKS. This seems silly to some, and like a low number. But I had stopped making the time!

>> BE SPONTANEOUS I’m crossing this one off, only because I’m getting so much better at allowing myself to be spontaneous. For those that know me personally. You know that I’m slightly OCD, and I like things to be planned out. This is still and on going process, but I’m proud of the progress!

>> ROAD TRIP WITH DANI So, it might not have been the trip that we had in mind… BUT- after my cousin/best friend received her double lung transplant in 2014 we learned that nothing goes the way you plan and sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. This weekend, we had a mini road trip to Tulsa (Jenks) and went to to the Oklahoma Aquarium! It was amazing!

>> WATCH FRIENDS FROM BEGINNING TO END. Ah, this was so much fun and nostalgic.

>> TRAVEL WHENEVER/WHEREVER POSSIBLE. – I changed the original, Learn to play piano to my New Years Resolution this year. To travel, no matter how small the trip might seem. If it was a small weekend trip, or a big week trip. Just to get out, and go! Stop making excuses! This is still in progress, I’ll let you know later in the year how I did. So far, so good!

>> TAKE MORE PICTURES. – This was to start the process of going back to school. I did a lot of soul searching last year and have decided that going back to school, at least right now in my life just isn’t what I want to do. I love my job and I just want to focus on getting certifications to better my profession and maybe I will look closer at school later down the road. I just want to be ready and focused so that I’m in a great place to be successful.

>> GO WINE TASTING. Chocolate Box, Seattle, WA. 5.6.2016 (And beer tasting at The Pike Brewing Company)

>> TAKE ONE TRIP ALONE. SOME WHERE I CHOOSE, SIMPLY BECAUSE I WANT TO. – This was to learn to edit videos, but this one is something that I really want to do. There are so many places that I want to go/see. I want to stop making the excuse that I don’t have someone to go with me or schedules do line up. So, I’m going to make the plunge and just go somewhere for a weekend alone, and explore.

>> FINISH DECORATING MY HOUSE. – Slowly but surly getting closer to crossing this one off, one room at a time!

>> TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF THE USA. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. March 2016!

>> ATTEND A MUSIC FESTIVAL OF MY CHOICE. – I’m thinking about going to Stagecoach next May out in California. My good friend Brandy is slowly talking me into it!

>> SEND MORE LETTERS/POST CARDS. I’ve been sending them to my friends who live further away.  But, I would like to get even better about sending them to even my friend who live right here.

>> WORRY LESS. – This one is still a work in progress. 🙂

> MAKE NEW FRIENDS. I’ve made some wonderful friends since making this list, but there is always room to make wonderful friends or reconnect with old ones.

3.24.2017 – Still Around

Just a quick note to say that I’m still around, just focusing on my health issues currently. I have been posting photos of my planner spreads and such on my instagram @anoklagirl and occasionally trying out insta-stories so you should check them out for more regular content at the moment. I hope to be back up and running on here soon. I just have to get this 5+ month migraine to subside first.

I appreciate all of your support through the last few months.

11.25.2016- Current Favorites

Since I haven’t been trying a ton of new products this month, I decided to do a current favorites instead. These have been my must have “things” the past few months/weeks/days, etc! Buckle up, they’re very… VERY random.

Because I’ve had this migraine –  the sun and florescent lights kill me, I’ve been wearing a lot of hats. This one is my favorite (BOOMER). I grabbed it from Amazon.

I like big bags and I can not lie. Ok, sorry – I just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to use that line. But, really – I do. This one is great because it has a smaller cross body bag that fits inside for when you don’t want to carry such a large bag. This one is from Target, and I love it.

Ryan Adam’s cover of Taylor Swifts album 1989 is just… amazing. I’ve rediscovered this and it’s been softly playing in my office most days. If you haven’t checked it out, you need to.

Screen Shot 2016-11-23 at 1.49.47 PM.png

I have an obsession with chapstick, and I only like minty chapstick. Therefor, this is perfect!

Ok, Amazon Prime is amazing. But add a 30+ day migraine, working from home, and being in need of office supplies and you will have a new found appreciation for Amazon Prime!

I absolutely love my Erin Condren planner(s). I posted the first video in my Planning Series earlier this week. If you are a planner junkie, or are trying to get in to planning, you should check it out. You’ll also find some coupon codes in the description box!

Along with the planner theme, I’ve been obsessed with Erin Condren stickers from Etsy. I have several shops that I love, and I talk about them during the Planning Series.

I love pens, and this pen is great. This is the Pilot Frixion – Erasable pen and it actually erases!

I am a coffee tumbler/mug fanatic and had been considering falling into the YETI hype. Well, I watched all the videos that I’m sure everyone else has seen on Pinterest and Facebook where people compared the YETI to this Ozark Trail Tumbler from Walmart and y’all I love this mug! Plus, I love that it was about $8. It keeps my coffee hot, and I even bought the 20oz for my iced water or iced tea. They’re great!

How many of you have gotten these stupid scammer calls telling you that there is something wrong with your PC, or some amazing deal to lower your credit card interest rate, etc? Well, I know that on most phones you can block any given number – but what happens when you miss a call that you aren’t sure if it’s legitimate or not? This is an app, Mr. Number – You just copy and paste the number you’re curious about into the app and it will tell you if it’s been reported as fraud/scam before. Or, it will tell you who it is – if they are listed in the phone book. You can then “Black List” numbers that are scam/fraud, numbers so that if they call you again it will say “Black List” and you will know not to answer! Is this the point in life that you know you are an adult? When this is something that is your favorite thing?

Lastely, is my YouTube favorite. I’ve been a huge YT fan for several years now, but when you don’t feel good you get even more into shows, movies, or in my case YT. I just LOVE Julia Hope’s Vlogs! Her and her fiance are adorable. Plus, she has a target and candle addiction like I do! You guys need to go check her out!

Well, that is all I have for you today. Let me know what some of your favorite things are, what do I need to try?

I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving (if you are in the US!)

Until Next Time…

11.22.2016 – Life Update

Most of you are probably wondering why I would post this picture. But, this is my current feeling. Let me give you a little recap…

I’ve suffered from migraines for most of my life, but for the last few years they’ve gotten increasingly worse. For the last 2 years I’ve been on a great regimen with my neurologist and my migraines have been to a minimum. For me, that’s maybe once a month lasting 1-3 days; completely tolerable. But, for the 2nd time in two years I’ve had one lasting over 20 days that just will not break. Today, is the 33rd consecutive day… I’ve had a slew of tests, IV medications, spent several days in the hospital, and even had an occipital nerve block procedure done which only made it worse. My doctor has referred me to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to see their Neurology department and we’re hoping for some answers. Unfortunately, they’re so booked that it will be a couple of months before that can take place.

Now, about the picture — I bought tickets back in Februrary for my mom, uncle, and myself to see Billy Joel on November 11th…We’ve been counting down for MONTHS! He’s been one of my favorite artists since I was a kid. Because of this migraine I wasn’t able to attend. Mom and I stayed home but my aunt and uncle were able to have a great date night and said the show was incredible. They sent me tons of pictures, videos, and even brought me this hat that I am treasuring.

Now, New goal:

  • Billy Joel – Madison Square Garden

All that being said, I’m hoping that I can give a little attention to An Oklahoma Girl in the mean time. I’ll try to keep you posted on my journey.

I am going to start a series for planning/organizing so please look out for that. While I’m working from home, and juggling lots of doctors appointments the planner/organizing junkie in me is shining bright!

I hope everyone is ready for the holidays, if you didn’t see my previous post please check it out, you can get a great deal on some beautiful Christmas Cards!

Let me know what is going on in your life! If you aren’t following me on Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat – you should be! I’ll try and update more frequently on there as this journey to Mayo starts to happen.

I also want to take  a minute to give a huge Thank You to my mom, she’s been with me to all the appointments, stayed through the entire hospitalization, drove me to my procedure, and has taken me anywhere I needed to go since no one really thinks I should be driving at the moment. She’s put her life on hold while mine has been chaos, and is gearing up to head to Minnesota with me. For a girl who’s almost 30 it’s hard to give up control. But Mom, I so appreciate you! Love you!

9.7.2016 – What’s In My Shower?

I love long hot showers, and as I was watching random YouTube video’s with this same title I decided… I’m nosey about what’s in other people’s showers and what products they love or are trying out. So, why not make a post of my own. So that’s what I’m going to do. Here it is, What’s in my shower…

My shower is pretty basic, but I do have a few products that I rotate out from time to time. Including my shampoo. Currently, I’m using the Aussie – aussome Volume combo. Honestly, I really like the smell but I can’t say that it’s an amazing volumizing shampoo. But it works as for as a shampoo goes. I do rotate my shampoos pretty frequently or my hair starts to get unmanageable. About every other, or every two bottles I will get a clarifying shampoo. I just finished using my favorite which is by Matrix.

Next, super boring but this is my Venus razor. I’ve had it for years, I also have a venus travel razor that uses the same blade refills which is awesome.

I always have the Purity 3-in-1 face wash, as well as some form of Apricot Scrub. This is the Purity Gel wash, which I do not like as much as the original formula so I will go back to my tried and true! Because I do not always shower at the same time of day, I like to have both a night and day wash.

Bath and Body Works

This is my favorite body wash from Bath and Body Works, in the sent Vineyard Champagne Kiss. This was from their summer collection last year. I’m so sad that they did not make this permanent, and as you can see there is not much left but I am rationing it! I also have the matching lotion, which also is almost gone.

As you may have noticed, I do not have shaving gel in my shower. Over the years I have ventured away from using it. I find that it’s just messy and I just didn’t enjoy it. For about the last 2-3 years I’ve used Johnson’s Baby Moisture Wash in the sent Vanilla Oatmeal. Yes, this is a baby bath but I find the scent does not compete with any of my other perfumes, or lotions. It’s always very gentle and I love the way it makes my skin feel.

Also, two things that are not pictured. My luffa, and my method daily shower spray.

What is in your shower? Anything I should try?

Until next time.

xoxo H

9.4.2015 – Reflective…

Yesterday was my 3 year “anniversary” and I thought I would re-share this post. I still feel like this was the best choice in my life and hopefully, if anyone else is going through something similarly this helps a little. xoxo H

an oklahoma girl

Today, is a reflective day for me. Two years ago, my entire life changed… Let’s start from the beginning.

Just before my 21st birthday I noticed several irregularities in my period. I wouldn’t have a cycle for a couple of months, then I would have one that lasted weeks. After this happened a few times I called my family doctor who referred me to a gynecologist who specialized in “special” cases, he said. »Little did I know the bond that I would have with this doctor, he is now someone I consider a dear friend and I wouldn’t have my sanity with out him.« My first appointment was set in February, I waited what felt like years in the room before the doctor came in; he asked me if I had been feeling any pain; I hadn’t given much thought to the pain because I had always experienced terrible cramping…

9.1.2016 – August Favorites

Let’s start by saying what’s on all of our minds.. HOW IS IT ALREADY SEPTEMBER! Beyond that here are a few of the things I’ve been loving in the month of August.

Sip by S'Well

So, I know everyone is on the S’well bottle wagon. But this is a bottle made by the same company and from what I can tell does the job just as well for about 1/2 the price! I got this bottle at target for about $25 and I love it. It’s prefect for traveling or just day to day!

Real Techneques Sponge

In general I have not loved the damp beauty sponge application process in the past. However, I purchased this Real Techniques sponge because Jaclyn Hill was raving about it a few months about but didn’t really do much with it for a while. The last couple of months I have been absolutely love it for my foundation (IT CC+) and my under eye highlighting concealer (UD Naked Skin) application. Highly Recommend.

I picked up this Urban Decay – Smoked Palette for about $20 at Nordstrom Rack a couple of months ago, and I’ve been really enjoying it lately. I’m so ready for fall if you can’t tell. The deep browns, and emerald green just speak to me!

I may be ready for fall, but part of me is still hanging on to spring. Case in point – this Urban Decay lipstick in Turn On. I tend to gravitate to more nude or mauve colors but this just gives me life some days!

Bose Headphones

I am probably the last one to breakdown and invest in good quality headphones. I am that girl that was always buying overpriced crappy headphones at the airport because the last pair of crappy headphones I bought broke between trips. Well, I finally took the plunge. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG! These things are incredible! I went with the Bose corded and I have to say, SO WORTH IT!

Brett Young - Sleep With Out You

Along those same lines, my music favorite of this month is without a doubt… Brett Young- Sleep Without You. This is such a good tune, and it just always puts me in a great mood. If you haven’t heard it yet please go listen to it. It’s on almost all of my current Spotify Playlists (@hillaryhuffine)

As most of you know, the MayDesigns backgrounds for computers/mobiles are my favorite way to start a new month. Keeps me so organized plus they are always so pretty!

Travel Journal

I have been traveling a good amount this year, so I picked up this Travel Journal from Target. I thought it was so neat, it has pockets for you to put post cards, pictures, boarding passes that you are saving. It also has maps with “pin” stickers for you to mark where you have been!

Coleman Luggage

One of my favorite Christmas presents last year was this Coleman luggage, and I have been putting it to the test this year. But let me tell you, I love it! If you’re int he market for luggage I can’t recommend it enough. It’s reasonably priced from Walmart, and it is really great quality.  The medium size is my favorite for 4+ day trips, but the carry on size has gotten the most use out of it for weekend trips.

Last, but absolutely not least… CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — My Mom and I went for a week on vacation this month and it was so amazing. We were not ready to come home when the week was over. I’m already trying to see when I can make it back out there. Such a beautiful city, amazing food, and incredible history.

So, what were your favorites this month? What should I try, what should I listen to?

Until Next Time.
