8.31.2015 – August Favorites

Well, here we are again… It’s been another month! So let’s talk about things I loved this month! Ü

Sephora Waterproof Makeup Remover

Sephora Waterproof eye makeup remover, now as I’ve said before I really only use waterproof mascara. So, making sure that I get every spec of it off can sometimes be a chore. This remover is no-joke! It removes it as though it was never there!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind, Eraser for Dark Circles. I have been using this under my foundation for a few weeks and it is so great for highlighter and concealing. I’m really impressed with how much brighter it makes my face. I had used it a few times previously but I’ve really favored it the last 2-3 weeks.

Beach Town- Mary Kay Andrews

Beach Town, by Mary Kay Andres. No Spoilers, but I’m really enjoying this book. I’ve been listening to it as an audio book as I drive too and from work and it’s been really good! Highly recommend.

The Longest Ride

The Longest Ride, This is the perfect girls night movie. I absolutely loved it. I actually listened to this audio book in the spring when I was traveling and it was so good so I was really excited to finally see it.

Witches of East End Season 2

Witches of East End, Season Two… I watched season one a while back on Netflix and actually forgot about it. So, recently I noticed that season two had been added on Netflix and I started watching it and remembered how much I liked it! Really good watch, reminds me of old Charmed episodes, but very updated.

Well friends, those have been my favorites this month. What have you been loving? I know mine have been a little all over the place, but it has been a crazy busy one for me!

I’ve been keeping the make up simple, and sticking to the products that I know! But, September is going to be fun! I have a couple of trips planned… What do you think about some packing tips for both road trips and plane trips?

Until Next time…

8.27.2015 – Let’s Talk

Let's Talk

Today, we’re going to get away from the normal makeup and beauty topics. My Timehop app reminded me of a Facebook post from 4 years ago and it got me thinking…

“Don’t make decisions when you’re angry… Don’t make promises when you’re happy.”

It is so easy to say things out of anger that we can never take back, and it seems so simple to promise someone forever when you’re blissfully happy. But, can you keep that promise when all the cards are on the table?

Yesterday I was watching Jaime Primak Sullivan’s #cawfeetawk where she was talking about falling in love with her husband. This struck so many nerves with me. It was incredibly insightful. She said, before you choose to spend your life with someone to see their limits. Find out who they are when they are stressed, because people change in those elements. Find out what their addictions are, be it alcohol, football, whatever the case may be; because you will never come before those things unless they make that decision. No matter how incredible you are, or how much they care about you… love does not change their vices. They are the only one who can change the priority levels in their life.

But, you also have to see the person for who THEY are and not for what YOU want them to be. I was in a relationship for far to long because I held on to the idea of what we could be, or what I wanted us to me. Then so much time passed that it got to a point that I had invested so much time into this person, and this relationship that I didn’t want to walk away feeling like a failure. Now looking back the only person that I failed was myself. I allowed myself to be treated as less than I deserved, and I allowed it to damage how I felt about relationships for several years following. This relationship took a year to end, because we were both to stubborn to be the one to walk away and admit that though we had spent 6 years in each other lives that we were not right for each other.

I’m going to take a que from a sweet friend and name my last relationship California…

We will just do the readers digest of the relationship, and talk about the break-up.. California and I were together for a year, we talked about marriage, he had children that I adored… and I could picture our lives together. We had some hick-ups as all couples do especially when there is another parent involved but we worked through them; and we worked great as a team. About half way into our relationship I became very sick, California was so supportive through the whole thing. Insert red flag… I had major surgery and spent 4 days in the hospital, he came to see me once. I know some of you may be thinking that he had his kids, etc… he did not. So, fast forward a few weeks and he was back to being amazing, taking care of me through an 8 week recovery process. I bounced back and was feeling myself again. Well, fast forward to the month that we broke up and I hadn’t been feeling great. I get migraines from time to time and I had been dealing with those off and on. I wasn’t crawled in the bed 24/7, I was working full time, etc. The night that we broke up, one of his main reasons for ending it was that he didn’t have “time” for my medical “issues”… I was in shock, but I was seeing his true colors. I didn’t want that for my future, so after I grieved for the night… I was grateful that I found all that out before I married him.

Now, all of this is just to further explain that a person can be amazing when things are good, and they can even be amazing when the dust is settling… but who are they when everything is chaos? Are they the person sitting with you in the hospital waiting room when your loved one is sick? Or they the person that just asks if they are ok. Understand them, their strengths, weaknesses. Do you balance each other?

Tell me your story! Until next time…

8.24.2015 – Color Me Rad

For the last several years I have volunteered with the Color Me Rad 5k through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Oklahoma City. They donate per volunteer, per shift that the foundation can fill. So, I normally try to fill at least 2, but usually 3! This is such a fun way to give back!

It was messy, humid, exhausting, and amazing! I would not have changed one single minute of it. If you have Color Me Rad visiting a city near you… GO! You will have SO much fun!!

What did you do this weekend?

8.21.2015 – Swap Box Featuring – Peonies ‘n Mint

About a month ago, I could not sleep for the life of me. So I watched video upon video on YouTube of people who had become friends through this community they share and decided to send each other treats across the country. Some chose a theme, and some just decided to do things at random. This gave me such an itch to do this as well. I love when something so simple can make a huge community feel a little smaller!

So, at the risk of rejection and feeling like an idiot I reached out to Peonies ‘n Mint, Miss Ashley herself to see if this was something she might be interested in. Thankfully, it didn’t take any arm twisting at all!

Ashley Wall

peonies 'n mint

If you haven’t checked out her blog, you need to! She is an amazing writer and documents real life struggles that we can all relate to!

One of my 30Before30’s was to make new friends, and I truly believe I’m doing so with her! Well, we didn’t really know what we were getting into so we decided to opt out of the theme this go around and just to random, with some local items from our home state.

I’m so happy that we did this, it was a blast gathering things I thought she might like, and she hit the nail on the head with things that I absolutely adore and am so exited to try out! Now, let’s get in to the goods…

Let’s take a moment to adore how cute this box is! I’m sorry you got jipped int he box adorableness Ashley! I gasped when I opened it! But, that isn’t even the best part…

How precious and generous is this girl, and she knows me SO well for only knowing me through the blogosphere!

First, let me start by saying that she wanted me to be prepared to open the box and pore a glass of wine… girl after my own heart…

  • Vidal Ice Wine from 12 Corners
  • 12 Corners Cork Screw
  • Wine Glass
  • Wine Travel Guide
    • I mentioned in my 30Before30 that I wanted to do a wine tasting and she’s taunting me with a Michigan trip, I just might have to do it before that 30th birthday rolls around! Looks amazing!

Ashley and I spoke a little about different things in our lives, and she know’s I love office things and that I’m still trying to put my office together. So she sent me some goodies to help me out…

  • Colorful “H” Marquee (It also came with a blank-white H so I could decorate it myself I wanted!)
  • 12 Corners note pad, can you really have enough note pad! LOVE!
  • Candle, I love candles and this one is so adorable and smells so fresh!
  • Tea, she knows that my job can be stressful and she sent me a whole bunch of different destress and detox teas I can’t wait to try!

For another extra special dose of local culture…

  • Michigan Pasta Salad, I can’t wait to make this. Ashley said the recipe on the back of this package is really yummy!

I also had a special little note in there. These are a couple of my favorite things from this Swap Box. HUGE Thank You to Peonies ‘n Mint for doing this with me! I recommend anyone do this if you can, it was so much fun.

To find out what I sent Ashley, go check out her blog over at Peonies ‘n Mint for when she posts all about her treats all the way from Oklahoma.

Until Next Time…

8.19.2015 – August Ipsy

I recently starting receiving ipsy bags again. I stopped a few months ago because I had so many items that I hadn’t used only because I kept getting more items and I would get the OH SQUIRREL syndrome and “need” to use the new stuff immediately. So, I decided to stop for a few months, use a few things and then I would go back to it when I felt like I had used or purged enough of my products.

ipsy bag

This was my first bag back in action and I like, but don’t LOVE it.

  • Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizer Blow Dry Spray
  • Skone Cosmetics Lux  Doubler Eye/Lip Pencil in Wine
  • Juara Skin Care Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Facial Max
  • Noyah Natural Lipstick in Desert Rose
  • Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Elegantly Wasted

I’m loving the Noyah lipstick, and I can see using the lip pencil this fall! But, how cute is this bag!!

Well friends, that’s all I have this time! What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month? Until next time…

8.17.2015 – Search For Foundation Dupe

I absolutely love my It Cosmetics CC+ (I know, I’m a broken record!) but it is a pricey ($38). So, when I was nearing the end of my current tube I decided that I would grab this bottle of Ulta Demi Matte Foundation in hopes that it would be a good dupe. The consultant at Ulta told me that several people that loved the CC+ also loved this Ulta foundation and it was on sale for $5 (Originally $12) so I thought it was a great time to try it out. If it was a good fit, that would be a great price change!

I did not like it at all! It was very thick, not bendable. I tried both with a brush and a beauty blender… neither worked for me… it was like PASTE!

I do have other foundations that I like, just not any that work like the CC+ does. If you have any recommendations PLEASE let me know! For now, I’m just going to have to go grab another tube!

Well friends, that’s all I have! Please Please Please let me know your recommendations for affordable alternatives! Let me know if you like these comparison posts!  Until next time…

8.14.2015 – Target Beauty Box

IMG_7796 - Copy

I finally got a Target Beauty Box. I always see people posting pictures of these, but it’s always too late. They sell out so quickly! Target will offer these periodically, not as a subscription just as a first come first serve for a bargain of $7.

IMG_7797 - Copy

My first impression when I opened it was that it was so girly and adorable! It seemed so much more high end.

IMG_7798 - Copy

This box came with;

  • Cover Girl The Super Sizer mascara (full size) I’ve been using this for the last 2 days and I’m really impressed. Which is saying something because I’m usually not a huge fan of cover girl mascaras.
  • Hair Food, Moisture Hair Mask (full size) infused with Honey Apricot Fragrance. This made the box smell amazing and I can’t wait to try it.
  • Olay, Moisturizing Day Lotion & Moisturizing Toner (travel size) I’m saving these to take with me on one of my upcoming trips but I love Olay and I’m excited to try them.
  • Fekkii, Pre-Soleil Hair Mist (travel size), the directions say to spray this on your hair before you go in the sun. I think it’s to help with natural highlighting. I may try this when I go to the beach next month.
  • Crest, 3D White Strips (1 use), I’ve been wanting to try these but I’m not sure how much I will be able to tell from 1 use. But, I am excited to try them.

All in all, I’m impressed with the box. Especially for the price! Did you get one? If so, what did you think?

Well friends, that’s all I have! Make sure you’re following me on Instagram and Twitter, I will be sure and let you know when I see these up each time! Have a great weekend! Until next time…

8.12.2015 – Lorac Skinny Black Palette

Lorac-The-Skinny-Palette-Black-Eyeshadow-PaletteThis is the first time I’ve tried any Lorac products, but I saw this during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. So, I decided to give it a try. It was only $15 and looked like it would be a great palette for traveling, plus I’ve heard great things about the brand itself. Boy, am I obsessed. These shadows are amazing! From what I can tell they don’t really have names, just numbers… but I’ve been using the first 4 almost every day! They are so pigmented, the palette is supper compact and perfect for travel! This palette could EASILY sell for $30+ so I’m so happy it was only $15! Great for day or night looks. It did sell out online but if you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend.
PicMonkey Collage

Oh how this was an awkward photo to take, but I wanted to show you the everyday look I’ve been creating with this Lorac palette! Very neutral but I’m loving it.

Well friends, that’s all I have for you today. Do you have a palette or eye look you’ve been loving lately? Until next time…

8.7.2015 – Being Organizied

I would say that I am a pretty organized person. I plan things, I make lists, and I find comfort in this. I know that I shared my love for my May Book from May Designs. But, I realize that not everyone 1. Can/Wants to spend to purchase a planner or 2. Is just starting to try and get organize so they want to start somewhere. So, I thought I would share a few tips that I use both in my personal life and at work to stay organize. (When I can!) So here we go…

Calendars are a must, but cute calendars always make things easier. This one is from iMom, which is a really cute site… she has adorable calendars for the whole years. Both vertical and horizontal. I use my May Book for my personal life, and for my blog life. But for my work life… I use one of these as well as my Outlook calendar. Now, I know that some of you are thinking… this chick is CRAZY! But, I don’t obsess over it. I just find that at times with appointments, and reoccurring things that my Outlook calendar can become daunting so this is my way of putting things down where I feel like things wont be missed so easily.

I live by to-do lists! I found this one on Pinterest. It makes my life so much easier. It is basically a snap shot of my week in more detail than my calendar gives. I print one every Monday morning and just start listing out everything that needs to get done and the time frame it has to be done in. Then, at the end of each day I will check and see that everything for that day was checked off. If something is left I can just decide if it can spill over to the next day or if I need to go ahead and take care of it before I leave the office. In the Sunday/Saturday column I always have a title “On going items” this is where I list things that need to be taken care of but they are not time sensitive or things that I’m always working on.

Spend 5-10 minutes at the end of each week to clear your desk/office. Straighten things up, keeping things tidy will help with your overall productivity. If you aren’t having to dig through the same piles of paperwork or what-not everyday it can help you to accomplish more in your given time frame and to not feel some over loaded. Also, it will help your mind set on Monday morning if you don’t already start by feeling stressed the minute you walk in the door.

Well friends, I know this is a little off my normal beauty topic but that’s all I have today. Do you have things that you do to help you stay organized or prevent stress? Until next time…

xoxo H
