9.1.2016 – August Favorites

Let’s start by saying what’s on all of our minds.. HOW IS IT ALREADY SEPTEMBER! Beyond that here are a few of the things I’ve been loving in the month of August.

Sip by S'Well

So, I know everyone is on the S’well bottle wagon. But this is a bottle made by the same company and from what I can tell does the job just as well for about 1/2 the price! I got this bottle at target for about $25 and I love it. It’s prefect for traveling or just day to day!

Real Techneques Sponge

In general I have not loved the damp beauty sponge application process in the past. However, I purchased this Real Techniques sponge because Jaclyn Hill was raving about it a few months about but didn’t really do much with it for a while. The last couple of months I have been absolutely love it for my foundation (IT CC+) and my under eye highlighting concealer (UD Naked Skin) application. Highly Recommend.

I picked up this Urban Decay – Smoked Palette for about $20 at Nordstrom Rack a couple of months ago, and I’ve been really enjoying it lately. I’m so ready for fall if you can’t tell. The deep browns, and emerald green just speak to me!

I may be ready for fall, but part of me is still hanging on to spring. Case in point – this Urban Decay lipstick in Turn On. I tend to gravitate to more nude or mauve colors but this just gives me life some days!

Bose Headphones

I am probably the last one to breakdown and invest in good quality headphones. I am that girl that was always buying overpriced crappy headphones at the airport because the last pair of crappy headphones I bought broke between trips. Well, I finally took the plunge. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG! These things are incredible! I went with the Bose corded and I have to say, SO WORTH IT!

Brett Young - Sleep With Out You

Along those same lines, my music favorite of this month is without a doubt… Brett Young- Sleep Without You. This is such a good tune, and it just always puts me in a great mood. If you haven’t heard it yet please go listen to it. It’s on almost all of my current Spotify Playlists (@hillaryhuffine)

As most of you know, the MayDesigns backgrounds for computers/mobiles are my favorite way to start a new month. Keeps me so organized plus they are always so pretty!

Travel Journal

I have been traveling a good amount this year, so I picked up this Travel Journal from Target. I thought it was so neat, it has pockets for you to put post cards, pictures, boarding passes that you are saving. It also has maps with “pin” stickers for you to mark where you have been!

Coleman Luggage

One of my favorite Christmas presents last year was this Coleman luggage, and I have been putting it to the test this year. But let me tell you, I love it! If you’re int he market for luggage I can’t recommend it enough. It’s reasonably priced from Walmart, and it is really great quality.  The medium size is my favorite for 4+ day trips, but the carry on size has gotten the most use out of it for weekend trips.

Last, but absolutely not least… CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — My Mom and I went for a week on vacation this month and it was so amazing. We were not ready to come home when the week was over. I’m already trying to see when I can make it back out there. Such a beautiful city, amazing food, and incredible history.

So, what were your favorites this month? What should I try, what should I listen to?

Until Next Time.

11.27.2015 – At Home Pamper Night

With the cold winter months coming, and my busiest work season approaching it’s important to take some time and just relax. With lavish Spa getaways not in my budget, I’ve perfected my “at home spa” routine and I thought I would share it with you!

  1. Candles

These are an absolute must for a night of relaxation in my book! I turn all the lights around my house way down, and light every candle that I can find!

2.  Audio Book

the fixer upper

I put my Bluetooth speaker on with whatever audio book I’m currently engrossed in and then I’m ready to begin!

3. Lush Mask of Magnaminty

This mask makes you feel like you’re at the spa! It’s smells like mint chocolate chip ice cream, it feels so amazing! The tingles of the mint, and the way your skin feels after… you wont even know you spa’d at home!

4. Wine

Pour a nice glass of wine, enjoy the mask and kick back! This Ritual Pinot Noir is my current FAVORITE!

5. Treat Yourself

Madison Reed Spa

Madison Reed is currently working on their own at home spa and staycation ideas. One fun idea is to color your own hair! I took their Hair Color Quiz and these are the results that I got!

Now, as you all know I am not a fan of doing my hair! But, this gave me some good ideas on what I can do in the future! Plus, it was SO easy! I highly recommend taking their color quiz to get inspiration! If you do, tweet me @hillaryhuffine and @madisonreedllb using #MRLoveMyHair

What are your at home spay ideas? I would love to hear them! Until Next Time.

7.23.2015 – May Designs Review & GIVEAWAY

May Designs

I fell in love with May Designs earlier this year when I ordered my very first one! They have the most unique and beautiful designs and styles of agendas, notebooks, stationary, coloring books, etc.

I ordered one back in February for my personal planner and it has been in my purse ever since. I use it to organize my LIFE! When i started blogging and getting more serious about it I realized that I wanted to order a separate one to organize my ideas and thoughts for An Oklahoma Girl. They have so many designs to choose from, that’s the hardest part… PICKING! They are canvas covers, stitched together with such great quality that even being thrown around in my purse it’s still in great shape!

First, I’ll show you my original personal planner. I went for a January-December monthly style with the dotted back pages for list making. For my every day life, being that I’m not a student this works perfectly.

Now, when I was looking at the different options on ordering my “blogging planner” I wanted something a little different. I went with more of an agenda style, monthly pages but also the weekly breakdown for my brain storming and list making. (I’m a big time list maker.) This also left the back pages with lines for more list making, perfect for the organizer in me!

These Paper Mate Flair pens are my favorite for writing in my planner. They are colorful, and write really well.

7.13.2015 – Everyday Makeup

Lately I have found myself staying up later, and not wanting to get up in the morning during the week! Does anyone else feel this way during the summer?? With this, I’m finding that I gravitate to the same make-routine… I mean… I can do it half asleep and still turn out not looking like a complete zombie! (Bright side!) These are the products that I’ve been loving…

My skin type is Combo-Oily, with no current break-outs or problem areas.

IT-CC Cream Light

It Cosmetic’s CC+ in Light. Perfect coverage, but not to heavy for the hotter months.

L'Oreal True Match Concealer Fair Light Warm

L’Oreal True Match Concealer in Fair/Light Warm. When you aren’t getting as much sleep, you have to conceal those under eyes! Also use this to conceal right at the base of my nose where I hormonal get some redness.

nyx banana powder

NYX HD Finish Powder in Banana, I set my under eye concealer so that it doesn’t budge. The yellow tones also help with any discoloration.

milani blush- Luminoso

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso, I love the peachy pink sunkissed look. It has a hint of golden with out being too much.

Too Faced Pressed Powder

Too Faced Primed Poreless Powder, with a big fluffy brush I will blend my blush and set my T-Zone to make sure I can’t minimize as much oily-ness shine as I can.

Becca- Champagne Pop

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Champagne Pop, I will dust this on top of my cheek bones, bridge of my nose, and a little dab on my cupids bow for a glow. Ok… Can we just a minute to admire how beautiful this highlight is? I know that everyone is jumping on the Becca train even more so now because of Jaclyn Hill but… GUILTY. I am so beyond glad that I did. This highlight is so beautiful… “Was I living like a caveman?” 🙂 Now back to reality.

UD- Primer Potion

Urban Decay Primer Potion, I will use just a tiny amount before I apply my eye shadow. If I don’t use a shadow primer my eye shadow will crease really bad!

UD- Naked 3 Palette

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, I will use a few of these shades to achieve a simple neutral look. Usual my go-to’s are Limit, Nooner, Factory, and Buzz.

L'Oreal Butterfly Waterproof Mascara

L’Oreal Butterfly Waterproof in Blackest Black, after I curl my lashes I will pop a couple of layers on my top and bottom lashes for a voluminous look.

Maybelline- Nude Embrace Lip

Maybelline Lip Stick in Nude Embrace, I use this as a base for my perfect pinky nude lip!

NYX- Tea Rose

NYX Gloss in Tea Rose, This is the perfect topper to finish off the perfect pinky nude and a great neutral look for a day at the office, or running errands.

Well friends, that’s my every day routine these days and no I can not take a serious-selfie to save my life. I can do this look in my sleep, and some days I feel like I do! I hope you like it and send me pictures if you try it! Twitter: @hillaryhuffine Instagram: @anoklagirl I know some people will think it’s over the top but I’ve done it so many time’s now rotating a product our two that it can be auto-pilot. Until next time…

7.06.2015 – Drug Store Makeup Favorites

I am a super-fan of makeup, but I’m also very budget contentious. It’s absolutely possibly to achieve that perfect natural healthy skin look with out feeling guilty every time you see your bank balance.  I do like to splurge from time to time but these are my favorites on a budget.

bb cream

I’ve tried several foundations over the years, and this one has worked the best for me. I have oily/combo skin and this will keep me matte/natural glow all day with out feeling greasy. I like to apply this with my fingers. With other foundations I do prefer a brush, but I’ve tried this one with a brush, a sponge, and because of the tinnier consistency I find that I have more control with my finger tips.

This stuff is amazing for my under eyes. I have honestly not found anything even high end that I think works better for the price. A little bit goes a long way, and as long as I set it (with the next product) I find that it doesn’t crease or move on me.

nyx banana powder

Setting powder is a must, this is the NYX finishing powder in banana. I know, if you’ve never used a banana powder before it seems odd to put something yellow toned on your face. I felt the same way. But, it’s amazing. I just dab a little bit on a small brush, I use a fluffy eye shadow brush and it works great. Then just dab it under my eyes and on my T-zone where I tend to get a little more oily and my make up will break up a little more, and I’m good to go.

CG- Sand

I am all about the neutral tons on a day to day basis, especially for work. This has everything I love with out being overwhelming in the morning and is great pigment payout for a super affordable product. Cover Girl- Shimmering Sands.

milani blush- Luminoso

Milani makes some great blushes, this is in Luminosos and it gives you such a pretty glow. Peachy pink, it reminds me of Mac- Peaches with hint of golden shimmer (but not too much). Such a beautiful product and I honestly find myself grabbing this blush more than my high end ones!

Cover Girl Translusent Powder

Even though I’ve used the setting banana powder on my problem areas I still pat some powder and blend my blush, and then just set my whole face with some translucent powder.  I have tried so many different ones and honestly, I can’t tell that any one is better than the other. This Cover Girl powder is an oldy but a goody. I remember my mom using this one when I was a kid. (I bet she still has this exact kind in her makeup bag today.) But, HEY… if it’s not broken…

I’m obsessed with lip balm/chap stick, and I have to have minty kind. This EOS sweet mint is one of my all time favorites. I always apply lip balm before any other lip product to make sure that my lips are hydrated. Otherwise things can apply patchy and not look as pretty.

Revlon- Honey

Love, Love, Love the lip crayon craze! This is the Revlon Colorbust in Honey. Love the neutral-pink ton and is perfect for an everyday look.

Well Friends, I hope you like these products as much as I do. Please send me pictures if you try any of them out @hillaryhuffine on twitter @anoklagirl on instagram. Don’t forget to follow me for more blogs coming up. Let me know if there is anything you’d like to hear about and I’ll try to make it happen. Until next time…

7.01.2015 – Skin Care on a Budget

In the last 5-6 years, I’ve become almost OCD about my skin care regimen. Because of this I have friends that are constantly asking me of ways they can change up their routine without busting the bank. So, I decided to share this with all of you.

Step One: Removing your make-up BEFORE you wash your face. You will not get the most out of your face wash if it has to get through the layers of your make up, so removing as much as possible PRIOR to washing your face is important. My favorite way to do this is with the “Yes to Cucumber” facial wipes. These can be found at almost any drug store.

Facial Wipes

Step Two:(Optional) This is one of my favorite things, but it is optional. FACE MASK/Nose Strip! This is not something you want to do every day, but once a week… Maybe twice if your skin is feeling like it needs a little more attention. I have 2 favorites that are very affordable. 1. Mud Mask: This will detox your skin of impurities and make your skin feel amazing. I tend to you this one more when my skin is on the problematic side. 2. Clarifying peel off mask:  This will hydrate your skin, make it tighter, and also make your skin feel amazing. This is more just when my skin is on its better behavior and I want to treat myself. 3. Nose/Pore Strips: These are a GODSEND. I use these when I can feel a build up in my pores but can’t seem to get it resolved with a scrub alone. The T-zone is the worst about retaining dirt, makeup, and whatever else you can think of. This removes that. I will do this only when I can feel my pores building up.

Clay Mask Peel off Pore STrips

Step Three: Washing your face in the morning, and in the evening is so important. Morning: At night your body pushing all the toxins out of your body THROUGH your skin, so washing your face in the morning will help remove those from the skin surface as well as help with the application of your makeup for the day. Evening; you’re washing the remaining make up after you’ve used your facial wipes and also all of the gunk in the air that you walk through everyday. Plus, if you’re anything like me- a great skin care regimen before bed helps me to relax and sleep better.  I have two favorites, one I use every morning in the shower, which is St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Though, when my skin is feeling particularly problematic, acneic, or I can just feel a build up in my pores I will also replace my night time wash for the more abrasive St. Apricot Scrub. But, when my skin is clear I do not have any visible problem areas I tend to lean more toward my gentle Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser.

Aveeno Foaming St. Ives

Step Four/Final Step: Moisturizer! This is an important step that too many people skip. Whether you have dry, combo, or oily skin… this step is VITAL! when you wash your face, exfoliate, etc. You are stripping your skin of the natural oils. Now, as an combo/oily skinned girl myself I know what you’re thinking… GOOD! But, your skin needs those natural oils to stay fresh, and firm. So using a good daily moisturizer will help balance the natural oils in your skin and also help with breakouts. Now, it’s important to select the right moisturizer for your skin type. My favorite is the Aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer which I’ve found to be great on all skin types.

Well friends, that’s it. My budget friendly skin routine. Please send me pictures (Twitter @hillaryhuffine), post comments if you try any of these, or the whole routine! I want to know your thoughts. Also, if you have any other requests on the beauty side. Let me know, I’d love your input. Have a wonderful week, and a Happy Independence Day!
